Mike “Spartan” Thompson

Mike Thomson was born January 31st, 1971 and passed away on August 2nd 2024 in Lubbock Texas just a short time after being diagnosed with Leukemia. Mike had a love for many things, but his biggest were God, family and guns. After getting into shape Mike went on to compete in the Spartan Race and affectionately became known as Mike “Spartan” Thomson. He then used this title he earned to start NM Spartan Firearms Training, where he was a certified conceal carry instructor.
Mike served his country in the USMC where his passion for firearms became more prominent and eventually led him to serve as an instructor, helping residents of Clovis and surrounding area earn their conceal permit. The motto “Be the victor, not the victim” was a key aspect in his teaching style, where he ensured every student he had registered for a class would pass during that class or he would commit to teaching them until he was comfortable knowing his students were carrying the knowledge to carry responsibly and be accountable for every round fired.
NMSFT started to grow beyond what Mike had ever dreamed and he expanded his team and location to ensure everyone could have a chance to learn. His teaching style followed the NM curriculum with his own twists, knowledge, real world experiences, horrible dad jokes and a few good ones. While the subject of firearms is serious, he always made it fun and easy going for any level of shooter. He always said his teaching style was to never be intimidating.
